Summit Spring Disc Golf Course Review

Welcome! Disc Golf Around is a site dedicated to all things disc golf. Established in April, 2022, this site tracks a teacher’s journey from novice to “expert” (or at least a level way higher than I am now), and shares helpful information discovered all along the way. Whether it’s course reviews, helpful tips, access to the game’s best players/products, or anything else disc golf related, Disc Golf Around is made with you in mind. Now let’s get to our review of Summit Spring Disc Golf Course in Poland, Maine.

Course review Introduction

Disclaimer: I’m going to be biased on this one.

I’m a simple being.

Really, all it took on this course, was seeing that each hole is named after a different county in Ireland and I was in.

And yes, I did study abroad in Ireland.

And yes, it’s very cliché. My whole damn life is cliché, so it’s time I stop hiding from it and just embrace the facts.

And while we’re at it, it’s got a nice Irish pub right on the property so your 19th hole is sorted out for you as well.

Really though, I only recommend a place if the course is fun and well-kept. It absolutely is and Summit Springs Disc Golf is worth a visit.

To be fair, this course is a ball-golf course first and foremost. The disc golf entrance is tucked away at the bottom of the parking lot.

Somewhat of an afterthought. They know where there bread is buttered!

Don’t let this deter you, however. This is a fun course with a nice mix of open fields and wooded holes. Let’s give it a closer look now…

Signature Holes: Summit Spring Disc Golf Course

disc golf tee shot over bridge and water
Hole 3 at Summit Spring Disc Golf Course in Poland, Maine has some very nice tee shots like this one on hole 3.

These are just of the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…

Hole 3 – This is a very scenic tee shot over water (and a bridge (pictured above as well)). The hole itself is surrounded by younger birch trees for a very nice effect.

Young birch trees surround the basket at hole 3 at Summit Spring.

Hole 9 – This is a relatively steep downhill dog-leg that epitomizes a lot of the holes on the course.

steep hill behind disc golf basket
Fun, downhill hole that forces you to work on accuracy and distance control.

Hole 4 – This is just a fun, wide open hole for you to practice your drives (or distance control). Grip it, rip it, keep it somewhat straight, an enjoy a nice second shot.

This is the most open tee shot you’ll find at the Summit Spring Disc Golf Course.

hole 17 – Pick a path around the swath of trees guarding the basket and commit to it!

I suppose you could try going up the middle but I wouldn’t recommend it!

Ideas to Borrow for Future Course

disc golf hole sign
These quality hole signs give a good feel for the hole. I’m also a sucker for the fact that each one is a different county in Ireland.

Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…

As I’ve already stated, there is a lot to like about this course.

So, for this one, I’ll only pick one small touch that I appreciated.

I really liked the signs(see photo) that were clear, durable and gave you a good description of the hole. And of course, I appreciated that each one had a separate theme as well.

19th Hole

After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…

two mugs of brown liquids
Relax and have a pint after your round. Get a bite to eat as well and feel free to let disc golf be the topic du jour!

This one is very simple. Complete the Irish theme and go to Mary’s Pub after your round. It’s right on the premises. No GPS or driving. Nice and easy.

Have a fresh pint, some nice pub food and think/talk about the round you just enjoyed.

Summit Spring Disc Golf Course In Summary

I really enjoyed my round at Summit Spring Disc Golf Course in Poland, Maine. It’s very easy on the eyes and even easier on the scorecard. With open fields, woods, uphill and downhill shots and more, it offers a lot of variety.

Everything from the upkeep to the quality signs indicates that great care was put into the course.

After your round, be sure to grab a pint or a bite to eat right on the premises at Mary’s Irish Pub.

All told, Summit Spring Disc Golf Course in Poland, Maine is absolutely worth a visit.
