Northwind Disc Golf NH – Course Review

Welcome! Disc Golf Around is a site dedicated to all things disc golf. Established in May, 2022, this site tracks a teacher’s journey from novice to “expert” (or at least a level way higher than I am now), and shares helpful information discovered all along the way. Whether it’s course reviews, helpful tips, access to the game’s best players/products, or anything else disc golf related, Disc Golf Around is made with you in mind. Today we review a wonderful little course in Hopkinton, NH (near Concord) called Northwind Disc Golf Course. Enjoy!

Course review Introduction

On a random Wednesday in mid-June, life unexpectedly brought me to Concord, NH. I knew I’d have a few free hours somewhere along the way so I opted to forego my disc golf go-bag and just bring my “official” one instead.

Outside Concord there are many course options to choose from. Some day I hope to try them all. On this particular one I chose the course that was somewhat on the way home. So, my travels brought me to Northwind Disc Golf Course in Hopkinton, NH and I did not regret my decision for an instant.

They do well to warn you about the hazard of ticks!

What is it about the random disc golf outing that leaves such a mark? I think, like travel, it’s the discovery of new places and the meeting of new people that I find so invigorating. Whatever the case, I was highly impressed with Highland Disc Golf Course. I did not have a lot of time so I was literally running between many shots (Not a lot of photos). But the people I interacted with were so friendly and such characters as well.

I ended up passing two couples repeatedly (it’s how the course flows). Both were extremely friendly and one guy just kept yelling out “Great Shot!” or “Boom!” while my disc sputtered and ran out of gas after 225 feet. I make it no secret that I’m a huge fan of disc golfers. These folks were no different…

The course is smartly designed on a relatively small amount of land. The first 9 holes are essentially open, while the back nine are in the woods. Right away, you have something for everyone. As you walk, there are ponds and brooks smattered throughout. In addition, the baskets and most of the beautiful stone tee pads seem to be brand new (as of 2022).

All in all, it makes for a great experience. Let’s look at some more of the particulars you might find at Northwind Disc Golf Course in Hopkinton, NH.

Signature Holes at Northwind Disc Golf Course.

These are just of the opinion of the writer. With each course, I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…

Hole 1 – (Sorry no photo)! It’s a slight down hill shot for about 250 feet over a field. The basket, however, is just inside the woods and well guarded by a series of mature trees. My strategy was to put it on line and just hope it found a way through (I don’t think I got it all the way there though and had to putt through…)

Hole 5 – Beautiful stone tee pad sets up a scenic shot downhill with view of pond in the backdrop.

This stone tee pad shows the care they put into the course!

Hole 7 – Tricky downhill par 3 with scattered trees up front, a pond to contend with and a marshy area to get over.

Ideas to Borrow for Future Course

homemade wooden bridge over wetland area
A nice homemade bridge adds character to a course!

Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…

Obviously, I am a fan of those tee pads. I’m not entirely certain how slippery they get on wet/snowy days so that is something to monitor.

In addition, I appreciate the mixture of open holes and wooded holes that they have in nearly equal proportions.

Finally, I’m always a fan of natural running water and/or homemade bridges.

If I get my chance to create a course, I’ll try and incorporate some/all of those ideas…

19th Hole after Your Round

After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…

two mugs of brown liquids
Relax and have a pint after your round at Northwind Disc Golf Course. Get a bite to eat as well and feel free to let disc golf be the topic du jour!

Note: I did not have time on this particular day to even think about going anywhere after. Nevertheless, Google can give you a good idea. If you have ideas, I’m happy to hear them!

The Everyday Cafe – This looks like a nearby spot with some personality that you can get a beer and good food at a good price.

Tenth Tee Tavern – Depends how you feel about ball-golfers. I couldn’t resist given the name. Also, it has 5 star reviews.

Lakehouse Tavern – Probably where I’d go. On a lake. Pub food. Beer. Checks all the boxes for me.

Norwind Disc Golf Course – In Summary

Northwind Disc Golf Course is a fun course with miles of style. It winds over fields with rock walls, though woods, over brooks while taking you on a fun tour.
