An Introduction to Disc Golf Starter Sets!
If you are reading this, you or someone you know is starting to dip your toes into the world of disc golf.
We are biased, but we truly believe this is a great decision. It’s an amazing game with fantastic, welcoming people that can be enjoyed by anyone that gives it a shot.
And like many other endeavors, there are a lot of layers to the game and a lot of information to sort through.
Luckily, these layers unveil themselves in a very natural way as players progress through the sport. So, for now, you don’t have to concern yourself with too much of that.
Right now, you can just be thinking about getting some nice, tried-and-true, beginner-friendly discs in your hand so you can find some early success on the course and start off on your disc golf adventure.
We strongly believe that every single disc golf starter set you will read about in this post is a good choice. We’ve tested them all and we approve!
We want you to feel confident in this. We look at the landscape for “disc golf starter sets” and there are some discs out there that aren’t very good. The starter sets you’ll find here are made by reputable companies. And if you continue to progress with the game you will hear these names again and again.
So here’s some basic information you’ll want to know before making your decision. We’ll tell you what we looked for and then we’ll categorize each set so you can make a good choice for yourself.
This is exciting! Here we go!
Disc Golf Starter Set – The Basics!
Did you know that disc golf has thousands of different discs?
It’s true! There are lots of different companies that all design discs to do different things in the air. Some turn left, some turn right. Some glide and some get down. There are discs to go big distances while others are made for shorter shots. And on and on it goes…
But, like we said before, you don’t have to worry about that right now. All in good time…
Right now, just know that these sets are designed for beginners. That means that they are typically easier for beginners to throw.
The way we see it there are 3 factors we’d like you to understand before finding the right set for yourself. These will affect flights in the present and the future.
1. Plastic Type – There are many types of plastics in disc golf. Knowing the plastic type will help you know how well it will fly for a beginner, but also how long you can continue to use the disc.
2. Weight – The typical weight for a beginner disc is 175 grams. Some beginner sets have lighter discs so that it’s easier for the beginner to throw.
3. Flight Characteristics – There are 4 numbers on a disc that indicate how a disc will fly. If you are curious we have a post dedicated to understanding flight numbers, but for our purposes we’ll just tell you how beginner-friendly each set is and whether you’ll likely be able to use them as you progress.
We have a post entitled Best Beginner Discs That Stay in Your Bag (opens new tab) that you can explore if you are looking for individual discs that are great for beginners but that you continue to use as you improve!
For now, here are our best disc golf starter sets!
Best Overall Disc Golf Starter Set! – Infinite Discs!
The reason this starter set is in the top spot is simple. Each individual disc is very highly rated and you can absolutely keep each and every disc in your bag for life!
In addition, the plastics are perfect for beginners. Players of all skill levels use the base plastic (D-blend) for putting and The Alpaca putter they offer is even used by top pros. The I-Blend for the other two discs is a great mid-grade blend that can endure a few tree smacks without too much trouble at all (minor bumps and nicks are to be expected and many times preferred!(It can make the flight pattern more favorable)).
The Anubis is a straight-flying midrange that is a basic point and shoot disc that many players use. It can also hold lots of lines that a player throws it on.
The Sphinx is a high-glide, beginner-friendly, easy-distance driver that is perfect for a beginner’s first distance disc, but can evolve in the bag for a lot of shots down the line as well!

Best Starter Kit with a Bag – Dynamic Discs!
Well, mostly Dynamic Discs. There’s also some Latitude 64 in there too.
These companies are 2 giants that merged back in 2023 (which is why they are packaged together). Before that they were both great companies in their own right and known for producing high quality discs.
Interestingly, you can get a high-value set of 10 discs that are mostly premium plastics but misprints (cosmetic flaws) from this merger of companies (Dynamic Discs, Latitude 64, and Westside Discs) on Amazon here (paid link).
The 3 discs in the set below are fantastic! It should be noted that they are all in the base plastic, but their base plastic is better than many others and it shouldn’t matter for the putter or the midrange.
The Keystone is a gliding, straight-flying disc that’s good for putting and throwing.
The Fuse is another high-glide, straight shooter that’s also good for bending around corners when you are in a tight spot. This disc easily made our post for The 30 Best Discs with High Glide!
The Escape is a no-nonsense, rock-solid driver that can be used in a variety of shots.
But the real value of this set is the bag! A Dynamic Discs Trooper Bag is an excellent, high-quality, durable bag. And if you can restrain yourself from buying another bag later, you will not need another! It’s top quality at a great price!
Put it all together and you’ve got an outstanding set with a great bag and some very nice discs.

Innova is arguably the most popular brand in disc golf. It’s also most likely the best known brand.
So, if you want to speak the language of disc golf with others, get this set. Almost every disc golfer knows what these Innova discs are designed to do, and could probably direct you which to throw for any given shot.
These 5 Discs are absolute classics in the game. The Aviar putter, The Roc3 Midrange, The Teebird fairway driver, and The Destroyer distance driver are all true staples in the game. These are best-selling, highly-rated discs in their respective categories.
And The Leopard is widely considered one of the best beginner drivers in the game.
If you think you’ll like to throw forehand shots, the Teebird and Destroyer both made our list of Best Forehand Discs in Disc Golf!
The only thing we don’t love about this set is that all the plastics are in their base Dx plastic. This usually means you won’t get as much longevity out of the drivers, but some of those discs could stay in your bag forever!
Put it all together and you get 5 absolute classics at a very competitive price!
