Apex NP-600: Best All-Around disc Golf Rangfinder?

Today we review the Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder to see if it is, in fact, the best-all around rangefinder at the best price point. There are definitely some cool features that you are going to want to know about, when you are deciding which disc golf rangefinder to choose. Let’s begin!

I reached out to Infinite Discs and they very kindly agreed to send me the Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder for review (along with some other products as well).

Having tested my fair share of rangefinders, I really wasn’t sure what to expect or even what I was looking for to separate this one over some of the others.

I’ve had and used this rangefinder for the better part of 6 months and run a whole battery of tests on it.

To say I was impressed, however, is an understatement.

This rangefinder is laser accurate, user-friendly, convenient and has a lot of fun features I enjoyed testing.

And to top it off, it was appreciably less expensive then some of its competitors.

Before we get into the nitty gritty, I’ll briefly explain the tests I did, give you the basic a look at what the Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder brings to the table!

Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder Features!

As I said in the intro, this rangefinder has a lot going for it!

Let’s have a look at each of the pros and I’ll lay out a few cons, so you can make a decision that’s best for you.

Pro #1 – Durability

I’m not going to intentionally get an electronic device wet. It’s too pretty and we all know better. But I did run it through a battery of tests (some intentional and some less so).

In addition, I read a whole lot of reviews from others to double-check they were getting the same results.

The end result is that this sucker is quite durable. It works as well as the first day I took it out of the box.

The rechargeable battery (also a plus that it charges) has held its charge well and I don’t need to charge it up very often at all (and there is display that comes on when it is time to charge.)

Apart from the normal wear and tear, I’ve accidentally left it in my screaming hot car in the summer and I’ve certainly dropped it more times than I care to admit. It doesn’t seem to mind at all and keeps chugging right along and giving that pinpoint accuracy I covet.

Pro #2 – Accuracy

The Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder is quite accurate!

There’s only so many ways one can test accuracy before you realize the thing is pretty flippin’ accurate!

I tested it right next to other industry leaders (for golf and disc golf). It passed with flying colors.

I tested objects far off in the distance, farther than most humans can even think of throwing, and then measured in smaller increments to that longer point. No problem.

I tested it against distance markers from hole signs at the tee pad. Check.

And I redid a lot of my tests AFTER using it for a long time, to make sure it didn’t lose accuracy. It didn’t.

This thing is accurate!

Pro #3 – It Measures Height and Relative Distance!

There’s a rule I always forget where 10 feet of height adds 30 feet of distance (I think).

But how do you know what the height is for sure by eyeballing it? And what’s the likelihood you’ll even remember that rule and make all these calculations while sizing up your shot? In some cases you have to do all that in 30 seconds? No thank you.

For me, I like have all that calculated for me so I can keep my focus on my shot.

And better yet, there is one setting that I prefer, that has distance, height AND relative distance all in one display.

Sign me up for that!

Pro #4 – It Measures Speed!

This is just plain fun. It’s more of a vanity stat, but who among us is completely immune to a little vanity?

Nobody. That’s who!

This rangefinder measures speed!

I’ve tested this on cars, dogs, and of course, discs. The car gave me the most reliable data that the speed feature is accurate, but, apart from that, it’s hard to be absolutely certain.

And it does take a little bit of practice to keep the sights trained on a moving disc (it’s a bit like old school Duck Hunt for Nintendo). But once you get the hang of it, it’s informative and a lot of fun too boot.

It’s also unique. I don’t know of this feature on any others that I’ve tested.

This brings me to the last of the major “pros” for The Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder…

Pro #5 – It’s A Great Price!

When you combine all of the previous upsides, you would think that it would hit you harder in the wallet.

Not so!

This rangefinder is about 25% less expensive than the industry leaders.

It’s durable, accurate, long-lasting and it has added features like the ability to measure your speed.

Throw in the fact that it comes at a great price and you’ve got yourself quite the option for a rangefinder.

But, before we put a bow on it for ourselves, I’ll let you know the con I was able to find.

Con #1 – Too Many Features?

Maybe I’m not a gadget guy through and through, but I honestly think this rangefinder would be better if it had less options. There are only two settings I see myself using.

  • A The distance setting with the flag symbol that tells you distance, height, and relative distance from the target.
  • B. The Speed Setting

All the others seem a bit superfluous (why do I need a yards setting again?) and it can be slightly annoying if you are scrolling through and you miss the one you are looking for and have to scroll through again.

I know. Life’s tough.

It’s also just a bit confusing to figure them all out. I say, less is more!

Luckily, this rangefinder STAYS on the setting you last used so you can pretty much set it and forget it.

And I suppose, if I’m nitpicking, the actual name of the rangefinder could use a little work.

But that’s honestly all I could come up with and is easily worked around.

Do I recommend the Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder?

You bet I do!

The Apex Disc Golf Rangefinder!

When you add up all the pros, subtract the limited cons, and add in the price point, this thing is a great option for any disc golfer looking to get their next rangefinder.

And if you’re convinced like me, you can get the Apex NP-600 Disc Golf Rangefinder on Infinite!

I prefer Infinite, because they are the makers of it, and they usually have the best prices.

But I also don’t look down my nose at a little comparison shopping!
