2 black disc golf gloves from Layout and their DiscLites.

Layout Gloves for Disc Golf!

In this post we will give you a complete review of the Layout Disc Golf Gloves! We thoroughly tested these gloves in many conditions and are ready to share our thoughts. Let’s begin!

Layout Disc Golf Gloves – An Introduction

With a name like “Layout,” it’s no surprise that this glove company started in Ultimate.

Also found in the “unsurprising” category is that their founder, Jake, would later get into disc golf.

There’s usually a good amount of cross-pollination between the two sports.

In disc golf, we rely so much on the different grips we put on a disc, with all their varying nuances, that many weather conditions can be quite disruptive to our games.

Whether it’s rain, cold, too dry or more, your grip is essential to your performance.

So, when Jake got into disc golf, you can bet he donned his already successful Ultimate gloves when the grip was harder to come by.

His friends in Ultimate that used his gloves had already given him the heads up that the gloves were great for disc golf as well. Nevertheless, he was still delighted to find out first hand that he had unknowingly created an excellent disc golf product.

Truth be told, Layout has two different disc golf gloves (as well as another disc golf product we’ll show you later on). Both serve a purpose and both come in handy when you need that extra grip (or don’t forget about that extra layer of protection for sore, blistered hands) on the course!

Let’s take a look at both products and see why Layout gloves immediately landed on our post for Best Gloves in Disc Golf!

Layout’s Two Different Gloves!

Distance or Accuracy? It’s an age old debate in disc golf.

Both have their merits, and it just so happens that Layout has a glove for each.

Truthfully it’s not that binary.

You’ll appreciate either of the gloves on the course. Both offer grip in the weather, a bit of warmth in the cold, and a layer of protection against painful sores or blisters. They are also breathable and comfortable to wear for long bouts of time.

But, one (The Classic) is created to give you even more grip (which adds spin and thus distance), while the other (The Elite) is preferred for a bit more touch and feel on the disc.

If you can’t decide which to get, Layout sells a combo pack that gets you a discount as well as boths sets of gloves.

If you have to choose just one, we’ll be sure to outline which one we give the slight nod to as well…

Layout’s Elite Disc Golf Glove

If you had to pick one glove, we’d probably recommend Layout’s Elite Disc Golf Glove (that didn’t take long!).

This is the glove that disc golfers prefer for a bit more feel or touch around the basket.

In our tests, we also found that it offered plenty of grip so we don’t think you are going to lose out on too many RPMs when you are driving either.

It’s a great, all-around disc golf glove that gets you the grip and protection you desire while still allowing you to get some touch around the green.

Layout’s Classic Disc Golf Glove!

If you really want to grip it and rip it, The Classic might be for you.

This glove has even more grip to it, and that will often result in even more RPMs on your drives and even more distance. The team at Layout considers this more of the “Driving Glove” for added distance.

Like all products, these gloves take a little getting used to because that grip is intense. But once you are locked in, you’ll appreciate The Classic like we do!

Choosing the Right Size!

Nobody likes sending things back. Even worse are gloves that don’t fit.

Here are two pearls of wisdom from Layout when choosing the correct glove. After that, just use the sizing guide image and you should be good to go!

This is the sizing chart found here. It has measurements for length + width.
  1. If you are in-between two sizes, choose the smaller size. Snug is better than loose.
  2. Related to tip #1 – The length measurement is more important than the width measurement.

Layout has Disc Lights As Well!

If you are into night rounds of disc golf, you’re not alone.

As the good folks at Layout have gotten into disc golf, it’s only natural that they would enjoy a night round or ten.

And it just so happens they’ve come out with DiscLites to ensure that you don’t lose a disc at night. These lights are small, bright, and have different modes so you will have a really hard time losing your disc.

Just affix one of your Disc Lights (6 to a pack) to the bottom/center of a translucent disc, click the light on, throw your disc and easily find it. When you’re done, turn the light off and preserve the battery for the next throw or night round. Be sure to add a layer of clear tape to reinforce the light adhesive on the discs so that inevitable throw that hits a tree at full speed doesn’t pop the light off.

All told, these batteries last 15 hours so there are plenty of night rounds in there!

It’s also best that you leave your light attached to the disc for the life of the light. The stickiness goes down when you remove the light and there’s a higher likelihood it might fall off your disc once you re-attach them. Layout recommends you use clear tape if you do have to reattach it.

These things provide a lot of peace of mind and we highly recommend you get them and stop hunting for discs in the night with a high likelihood of losing them.

Layout Disc Golf Gloves – In Summary

When we did our post on the best gloves in disc golf, Layout wasn’t even on our radar.

You can’t sink all of your putts I suppose…

So, we were thrilled when Layout reached out to us for a review. We can see why they were confident and eager to get on our radar.

Their product works great.

These gloves provide grip, breathability, hand protection and comfort in all sorts of conditions on the course.

They come in two types. The “Elite” is a bit thinner and allows for more feel and touch while the “Classic” is a bit thicker and gives a bit more grip (which can easily equate to more spin/distance).

If you like the sound of both, you do get a slight discount by getting their combo pack (featuring both types of gloves).

All told with their disc lights, and two sets of quality gloves, Layout makes a great product that you’ll absolutely appreciate when you really need that grip!
