Course review Introduction
Do you know how disc golfers take pride in their disc golf number? The lower the number the better, because it shows you’ve been playing longer. It’s sort of an “I was here before you” vanity number, in a fun way.
With over 250,000 members, these numbers can get pretty high.
Well, the person who designed Leonard Park Disc Golf Course in Mount Kisco, NY, Steady Ed Headrick, held PDGA Number 001.
That’s because he invented the entire game of disc golf. Heck, he invented the Frisbee as well. If you are interested in some of his history, here’s his Wikipedia page.
And if that history does grab your attention, like it does mine, then you should definitely check out Leonard Park Disc Golf Course in Mount Kisco, NY.
It’s a wooded course, with tight lines, and lots of fun shots from elevated perches.
It is currently maintained by Westchester Disc Golf Enthusiasts, aka WeDGE, and they’ve done a really nice job updating the layout and maintaining the course with newer tee pads, brooms, signage and more.
The course, on its own merits, is well worth the visit.
But when you add in the history, atmosphere, and the quality, it’s a must get!

These are just the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…
Hole 14 – This is a classic straight line ace run hole from an elevated tee pad to an elevated basket! There are many such holes like this at LPDGC!
Hole ? – Here’s another shot from an elevated tee box and a gorgeous sight line for your soaring shot!
Hole 15 – This is another common shot here! Test your accuracy with a wooded downhill shot and get rewarded with a soaring disc if you succeed!
Hole 10 – On this rare uphill shot, the tee pad is encased in a stone wall to nice effect!
Ideas to Borrow for Future Course
Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…
I think when I boil it down, I think I like the historical element of this course most. But the fun, elevated tee pads are nothing to sneeze at either!
So, perhaps, should my day come to actually create a course, I think I will somehow entice a reputable course designer to my property and see if I can’t get them to give me some ideas or even map it out!

19th Hole
After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…
There are no shortage places to visit after a round that are nearby.
Being as I was at my in-laws and had ditched everyone with our 5 year old and our baby, I didn’t have time on this particular day to justify a post-round stop at the pub!
But if I were to go somewhere I might check out Village Social Kitchen & Bar.
Another option could be Tony’s Bar and Grill! Looks like great pricing and excellent food!

There aren’t many disc golf courses near me (that I know of) that are designed by the inventor of frisbees AND the inventor of disc golf!
That, right there, is enough to entice most people to seek out an experience at Leonard Park Disc Golf Course, In Mount Kisco, NY. The charm of the history, with it’s vintage baskets, combined with the modern upgrades courtesy of Westchester Disc Golf Enthusiasts, WeDGE, are already worth it.
When you add in the fact that it’s a fun layout, with a vibrant disc golf community circulating, and I think it becomes a must get.
With an average Udisc rating of 4.5 stars and over 1,000 ratings, I’m not the only one that believes it’s a challenging but great course.
