Westy Acres Disc Golf Course Review

Welcome! Disc Golf Around is a site dedicated to all things disc golf. Established in April, 2022 this site tracks a teacher’s journey from novice to “expert” (or at least a level way higher than I am now), and shares helpful information discovered all along the way. Whether it’s course reviews, helpful tips, access to the game’s best players/products, or anything else disc golf related, Disc Golf Around is made with you in mind. Today we review Westy Acres Disc Golf Course in Greenfield, MA. Enjoy!

Course review Introduction

I may have a new favorite course. And while I say that, know that part of the calculus for deciding a “favorite” course is ease of access. Westy Acres Disc Golf Course in Greenfield is just under 30 minutes from my house. It’s a fun course with lots of personality.

It is well-maintained and has many fun/unique holes to keep you engaged throughout. With nice views, unique basket locations, and plenty of fun ace runs, this course has something for everyone.

I half-expected to see a hobbit house while playing holes 16-18

One interesting feature is that many of its holes run under some power lines. Bring your tinfoil hat if that makes you squeamish, but while you are there, be sure to drink in the views provided. Obviously, the space under the powerlines has to be cleared/maintained so mother nature doesn’t interfere in the form of fallen trees and such. Because of this, the course offers a series of open holes that you wouldn’t expect based on the first set of holes in the woods.

If you are a Lord of the Rings fan, I challenge you not to envision holes 16 – 18 as hobbit holes from the Shire. With cold brooks (I had to lose the shoes to retrieve a disc. Quite refreshing!) winding through green, grassy fields it’s hard to “unsee” it once it gets into your head (photos below).

Put it all together and you’ve got a great course, with 3 levels of tee pads and a great variety of shots to work on throughout the round. I plan to make many returns to Westy Acres Disc Golf Course in Greenfield and I recommend you do the same!

Signature Holes at Westy Acres Disc Golf Course

These are just of the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…

This is the view from the elevated tee pad at hole 16. This is one of the holes in the series of “Hobbit Holes” at Westy Acres.

There are a lot of holes that I could list under the featured section. This course has such a variety that you really could choose any number of them. I’ll choose a few, but I recommend that you chime in as well and let me know which ones stand out to you as well.

Hole 6 – This is a steep, scenic, downhill ace run hole with a nice stream running behind the basket.

Hole 9 – The basket carved into the tree stump makes it really stand out.

This basket in a tree stump is one example of the variety you find at Westy Acres Disc Golf Course in Greenfield, MA.

Hole 7 – This is a scenic par 4 running parallel to the train tracks with streams, bridges, and strategy to avoid hazards.

Hole 17 – This is a shorter, downhill par 3 from an elevated tee pad. Looking out you see scenic views of streams, wetlands, and verdure fields with disc golf baskets scattered throughout. It’s a true sight for sore eyes!

Ideas to Borrow for Future Course

Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…

Westy Acres Disc Golf Course in Greenfield, MA has a lot to borrow from for future courses. I appreciate the basket in the tree stump. I like how they utilize the cleared land under the power lines for a variety of open shots. They’ve even got some wild blueberries for you to snack on (by the basket at hole 12, under the power line poles. Remind me, why haven’t you subscribed yet?)

They also utilized the natural geography to incorporate many elevated tees for picturesque drives.

In addition, I appreciate how they seem to have many disc golf leagues and even some lighted holes to be played at night. After having played there just once, it is clear to me that the makers of this course are passionate about the game of disc golf!

19th Hole (22nd at Westy Acres)

After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…

two mugs of brown liquids
Relax and have a pint after your round at Westy Acres. Get a bite to eat as well and feel free to let disc golf be the topic du jour!

Pioneer Valley Brewery – Located just across the bridge in Turner’s Falls, this brewery has an open taproom with a good selection of beers to choose from.

The Rendezvous – My friend and I stumbled upon this place one day and were quite impressed. They have a nice little outdoor deck, good food and good beer. It’s one of those places where they really look to take care of you.

Brick and Feather Brewery – As far as I know they are still only selling beer to go (as of 6/22) at this Turner’s Falls brewery. It’s worth a stop by to grab a few for home. Stay tuned for a change to their status as well (reach out to me if this changes and I’ll update. )

Downtown Greenfield – Downtown Greenfield is a very good place to go for a wide variety of pubs. If you’re feeling inspired, you can even do an impromptu pub crawl. My personal favorite is People’s Pint. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere, good food and delicious home brews. If you are into chicken wings, then The Hangar is probably the spot for you. Greenfield has other good options as well, so head that way and see what strikes your fancy when you arrive!

Westy Acres Disc Golf Course – In Summary
