Welcome! Disc Golf Around is a site dedicated to all things disc golf. Whether it’s course reviews, helpful tips, access to the game’s best, products, or anything else disc golf related, Disc Golf Around is made with you in mind. Today we review the nice and wide open Oak Ridge Disc Golf Course in Gill, MA. Enjoy!
Course review Introduction
It took me a few holes of throwing at Oak Ridge Disc Golf Course in Gill, MA before I said to myself “Man, I really need to learn how to throw farther.”
This is the classic example of former ball-golf course being converted to a disc golf course. The good news is that the holes are wide open for the most part and you can let it rip. The bad news, if you are at my level, is that you can “let it rip” 3 times and still not be all that close to the basket on a few holes.
On the whole, the entire course makes for a very scenic day of disc golf. On both sides of the road there are plenty of open shots and elevated tee pads into glorious open space. In the backdrop are open fields, old barns and even a nice central pond.
Let’s have a quick look at some of the basic information and check out some of the featured holes as well!

Signature Holes
These are just of the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…
Hole 3 – The tee box gives you a great view of almost the entire course. It’s an example of the great views you’ll get…
Hole 7 – Massive drive from an elevated tee box on a 600 foot par 4.
Hole 17 – This is a very narrow downhill shot you have to “pipe” down the center or get creative on the outside.
Hole 17 (again) – the pond/shack in the back drop can be seen from many of the holes on the course throughout your round at Oak Ridge Disc Golf Course in Gill, MA.
Ideas to Borrow for Future Course
Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…
I’ve seen holes similar to some of the holes at Oak Ridge. But these elevated tee pads with wide open fairways below are too much fun. Watching your disc sail into the distance with the picturesque views in the backdrop are well worth the price of admission. I definitely want to try and incorporate similar holes if I’m ever fortunate enough to design a course.
19th Hole
After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…
Pioneer Valley Brewery – Located just across the bridge in Turner’s Falls, this brewery has an open taproom with a good selection of beers to choose from.
Brick and Feather Brewery – As far as I know they are still only selling beer to go (as of 6/22) at this brewery in Turner’s Falls. It’s worth a stop by to grab a few for home. Stay tuned for a change to their status as well (reach out to me if this changes and I’ll update. )
Downtown Greenfield – Downtown Greenfield is a very good place to go for a wide variety of pubs. If you’re feeling inspired, you can even do an impromptu pub crawl. My personal favorite is People’s Pint. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere, good food and delicious home brews. If you are into chicken wings, then The Hangar is probably the spot for you. Greenfield has other good options as well, so head that way and see what strikes your fancy when you arrive!
Course In Summary
Most people in disc golf like a few holes that are wide open where they can just let it fly. Oak Ridge Disc Golf Course in Gill, MA has that in spades! This is a really good course to come to if you want to work on your driving distance. If you already have said distance (I’m jealous) then this could be a very fun course to grip and rip at.
I don’t, however, want to give the impression that this course is only about distance drives. There are definitely a few holes in the woods where you can work on your technical shots as well. All told it’s a nice mix of open throws and holes in the woods/shade.
In addition, with some elevated tee pads looking out over the course, it makes for a very scenic round as well. All told I found it to be a very enjoyable round. It’s also a measuring stick for me so I can gauge any improvements I make in driving distance…
If you are looking for a fun round near Greenfield, Massachusetts, I definitely recommend heading out to Oak Ridge Disc Golf Course in Gill, MA. Enjoy the wide open, scenic course with lots of fun to be had!
