And if you are going to own a disc golf basket, you might as well have one that you want to use a lot. Hopefully, assuming you keep playing, this thing is going to be in your life for a long time. With that in mind, we think it’s a great idea to get a top-quality basket.

And the MVP Black Hole Pro HD is just about the best one we know of in disc golf.

The HD stands for Heavy Duty and they aren’t lying. This thing is built to last and simulates course basket better than any portable basket on the market (in our humble opinion).

Let’s look into all the upside it brings and then point out some potential downsides so you can make a good decision for you.

Major Upside to The Black Hole Pro HD!

We’ve already mentioned the durability. The chains on this thing are extremely thick and really do simulate a course basket well.

In addition to the chains, the other parts of the basket match the quality and durability as well. In short, this thing is built to last!

It also catches putts and shots superbly. There’s not a lot of cut-throughs or spit-outs due to feeble chains.

And typically, we like to bring our baskets in out of the elements to help with longevity. But if ever there were a basket that could shirk off anything weather related, it would be this one. You can plop it outside and leave it out there for long bouts of time, and you’ll be hard pressed to find any weathering.

Then, if you do want to bring it inside, or you want to pack it up and bring it on the road, it’s easy to break down and reassemble.

With all this upside, you would expect a much higher price tag on it. But really, the price jump from other baskets is not that steep and we think it’s well worth it.

Potential Downsides to the Basket

Basically, some of the downsides are fixable and some come with the territory. It’ll make more sense when you see them.

Downside #1 – It’s heavier than other portable baskets – This one makes sense because the chains are thicker and so are the other materials. If you are going to get HD it stands to reason that you’ll get a bit more heft. This one weighs in at 42 pounds and a typical portable basket weighs about 25 pounds. That’s not insignificant. And if you plan to move yours all over the place, you may want to opt for a lighter one.

Downside #2 – It’s loud – This is a classic concern for home disc golfers. When you’re at a course you don’t think twice about the “ching” of the chains. But at home, when there are neighbors, sleeping children, dismayed partners, and all the rest, sound can be an issue.
