Whether it’s course reviews, helpful tips, access to the game’s best players/products, or anything else disc golf related, Disc Golf Around is made with you in mind. Today we review Meadowbrook Orchards disc golf course in Sterling, Massachusetts. Enjoy!
Course review Introduction
I feel like Meadowbrook Orchards disc golf course got an unfair hand to play. In many other states, it would be ranked as the best disc golf course in the state. But it’s not in any other state. It’s in Massachusetts. That means it’s destined to be number two or lower. You just can’t trump the history and mystique of Maple Hill.
Nevertheless, Meadowbrook Orchards has a leg up on Maple Hill in a few aspects and it is absolutely, unequivocally worth a visit. The most amazing part of this course, in my humble opinion, are the views it offers. This is prototypical New England with it’s rolling hills, apple orchards and open hills. Off in the distance are miles and miles of trees, which is especially breathtaking if you happen to visit in the fall.
There are so many scenic shots where it really behooves you to just stop and drink it in. And speaking of drinking it in, this brings me to my second point. They serve food and refreshments right on the premises. And yes, there’s even beer.
With that, there is ample opportunity for you to socialize with your fellow disc golfers and swap war stories as well.
Meadowbrook Orchards is an amazing course. But be forewarned, the word is out! Make sure you can get there at times when there is less traffic. We had significant waits. And while I like the views, I don’t like them so much that I want to get iced waiting…
Let’s have a closer look at some of the features that make this place so enticing.

Signature Holes
These are just the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking..
Note: I made a significant omission by not taking a picture of the hanging basket at hole 13. I’ll right that wrong and get one up next time I visit next season!
Hole 14 – This is a wide open downhill tee shot from a high perch in the course. Somehow I managed to still get it OB!
Hole 18 – With a basket mounted on a tractor at the end of hole 18, you can see the care they put into creating this course!
Ideas to Borrow for Future Course
Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…
Typically, when you are constructing a course, the views are somewhat out of your control. The vistas at Meadowbrook Orchards are unrivaled in Massachusetts (see hole 14 above). Obviously, this is something I would love to have at my future course as well. Nevertheless, there are other features that this course has that I would like to emulate some day.
The first feature I really appreciate are the creative basket placements. One basket hangs from a tree, another is perched atop a wooden structure, and still another is built into a tractor (hole 18 photo above). It’s a very nice touch. One of many that leaves you with no doubt that the creators of this course went the extra mile.
Another feature that I think all disc golf courses should aspire to have is a place for players to congregate after a round and trade war stories. This course has a place to get a beer after the round and they sell plenty of other foods to tempt you after a long round as well. This leads nicely into the next section of my course review…
19th Hole
After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…
Like I said in the previous section, it is more than ideal to have a place to grab a beer after the round right on site. Meadowbrook Orchards has just this place and it’s exactly where I went when our round was finished.
If you are looking for more of a traditional pub type setting, try B-Man’s 140 Tavern. It has good prices, good reviews and is open from 11am to 1am most days.
Meadowbrook orchards Disc Golf Course – In Summary
Meadowbrook Orchards disc golf course is a must-play for any disc golfer in the area. It’s got miles of style and it’s abundantly clear the creators of course poured heart and soul into its making. From the vistas, to the creative basket placements, to the course layout and finally ending at their very own store/pub, this is a place that has gone all out for the disc golf community.
Unfortunately, given the rich history of Maple Hill, it’s probably destined to be “number 2 or lower” on all lists of rankings in the state. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be number one in your heart. I’m sure that’s the case for many of you out there. If so, I want to hear about it in the comments below.
Wherever it ranks for you, the bottom line is that you have to get to Meadowbrook Orchards for an amazing disc golf experience!
