Welcome! Disc Golf Around is a site dedicated to all things disc golf. Established in April, 2022, this site tracks a teacher’s journey from novice up to whatever level I get to, and shares helpful information discovered all along the way. Whether it’s course reviews, helpful tips, access to the game’s best players/products, or anything else disc golf related, Disc Golf Around is made with you in mind. Today we review Kirvin Park Disc Golf Course in Pittsfield, MA. Enjoy!
Course review Introduction
After reading the reviews, it appears that I caught Kirvin Park Disc Golf course on a good day. I remember thinking to myself, “Why does this place have only 3.0 stars with 80+ reviews?”
It’s got great views. It’s free. There’s nobody there to wait behind. What am I missing?
Is it the fact that it’s only 9 holes with antiquated baskets?” I wondered. “Or, maybe,” I ventured, “it’s the fact that basket 5 looks like it got trucked by a rhyno (the animal, not the disc)…”
After reading said reviews, I understand a little better. The 9 holes and the old, beat-up baskets were part of it. But apparently the place is rarely mowed and when it rains, the mud gets pretty bad (especially on the dirt tee pads).
Fair enough! I’m sure it didn’t hurt that we were there shortly after it was freshly mowed and after one of the larger droughts in recent history. Nevertheless, my friends and I really enjoyed the experience.
The price was right, the views were great and we had the whole, open course to ourselves. If you catch Kirvin at the right time, it is well worth the stop. Let’s look at some more particulars below.

Signature Holes
These are just the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…
There are a bunch of holes that lead you to the top of this hill in your round. When you’re there, take a moment to drink in the views and appreciate the fact that you’re disc golf’n around with your time that day.
We went just as the leaves were thinking about turning. I imagine that, in October, the views from up there are even more dramatic with the colorful fall foliage.
So, for this post, give me all the holes that involve the top of that hill as “signature holes” and I’ll appreciate the vista each time!
Ideas to Borrow for Future Course
Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…
You can’t always manufacture picturesque views with mountains way in the distance, when you are building a course. I’ll try, of course. But, it might not be in the cards like it was at Kirvin Park.
Something I can do is post a sign at the entrance to the course with a map of the hole layout. We took a photo and we definitely referenced it more than once. It’s easy to do and made our experience that much more enjoyable.
That way you’re not sending scouts out in all directions just so you can know where the next basket is. That can get tedious and time consuming. If I build a course, I’m going old school and posting a durable sign of a map!
19th Hole
After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…
Within 10 minutes of Kirvin Park Disc Golf Course there are any number of bars, saloons, taverns, pubs and the like… Really, it all comes down to your preferences. But for my money, I’m taking O’Laughlin’s Pub. It’s inexpensive, has good reviews, has nice choices on draught, and it has a very high rating on Google.
In that very same vein is Cim’s Tavern. I mean to get here some day as well. Good food, good atmosphere and good prices. Sign me up!

Course In Summary
According to this article, Kirvin Park disc golf course was completed in 2016. I, for one, am glad they created the course. It gave my friends and me a nice diversion on a sunny day in mid September, and we enjoyed the experience immensely.
Reading the reviews, however, it’s safe to say that it was not enjoyed by all. It seems the experience is very dependent on the time you visit. If the grass hasn’t been mowed and the tee pads are all muddy, it can be quite a bit less favorable.
But if those variables are working in your favor. Check out Kirvin Park disc golf course and enjoy yourself while you’re there!
