In today’s post we will review Rogue Iron’s four newer discs; The Biome, Arctic, Taiga, and Marine, and see if any of these Rogue Iron discs can get into your bag. As we write this, Rogue Iron is coming out with other discs as well! Each disc has its own characteristics that you’ll want to know about. Let’s begin!
Rogue Iron’s New Discs – An Introduction
After we did a review of Rogue Iron Disc Golf’s rangefinder, it’s safe to say that we were impressed.
That thing works great and has all the fixings. We liked it so much, it landed way up on our list of Best Overall Disc Golf Rangefinders.
Needless to say, when we heard about their foray into disc manufacturing, we were intrigued.
When their release got delayed because they “wanted to get the discs just right,” as they wrote to us we took it as a good sign. We are all for waiting if it means a better overall product.
“Our goal was to come out with high quality, straight flying discs. We knew that we could only make one first impression with a new line of discs, so everything had to be perfect.“
And let us tell you, these discs were worth the wait.
We have our personal favorites, but Rogue Iron has dipped their toes into the disc-making world with some great-feeling, straight-flying, versatile discs that are great for beginners and can stay in the bag of most disc golfers for life.
Better yet, they come at a great price point as well!
Let’s first explore the overall impression these discs give and then we can look at each individually.
First Impressions of Rogue Iron’s Discs
When a newer company introduces discs to the market, it would be very reasonable, we believe, to expect some “issues”. And we would be completely willing to overlook these issues! It’s a new company after all.
Here’s the thing. We couldn’t find them!
Excessive flashing? Nope. Misprints? Nope. Dings? Dents? Warps? Gauges? No, no, no and no!
These discs feel nice and smooth and are professionally presented right out of the gate.
As you can imagine, based on our positive experience with their rangefinder, we were then quite curious to see how they flew.
Rogue Iron’s Putter – The Biome
“The Biome” is Rogue Iron’s first putter. It’s flight numbers are 3, 4, -1, .5.
When throwing it off the tee, this disc flies very true to it’s numbers. At 70-80% power (for the average disc golfer) The Biome holds beautifully straight and true.
Just snap it at the target and watch it spin right towards it, and hover out of the sky without deviating from that line nearly at all.
Sometimes finding that straight disc that truly holds a line can be incredibly difficult and this is going to be a theme for all four of these discs!
If you give it a real full launch, you can watch The Biome turn gradually to the right and hold that line all the way to the ground. This obviously has plenty of utility out on the course depending on the course layout. The refreshing part was that it could hold that power without burning over.
Given that it’s a straight-flying, beginner-friendly disc, it’s not the disc you would reach for when throwing into a headwind or if you have massive amounts of power at your disposal and you need a lot of distance.
For putting, The Biome absolutely does its job and holds it’s line at the chains as you might expect. When disc golfers seek putting putters a lot of it comes down to feel. We liked the average depth it has (not too deep, not too shallow) but like a little more tack in our putting plastic (Ecotope base plastic) for grip. We don’t doubt, however, that it will be a just right putter for other disc golfers and will attack many a chain in our great game!
The end result with The Biome, is a really nice, forgiving disc that has a lot of utility off the tee and could certainly find its way into many a disc golfer’s bag!

Rogue Iron’s Midrange – The Arctic
The Arctic, Rogue Iron’s Midrange, continues the theme we found for straight-flying versatile discs that are beginner-friendly and fit into a lot of players’ bags.
The Arctic, which comes in their premium, translucent ecotron plastic is a hyzer-flip, straight shooting machine.
Give it a nice smooth release from 200 – 225 feet and watch soar right to the basket.
It also flashes versatility when you need to scramble out of some tight spots. You can release it on some odder angles when you’re in a bind in the woods and trust it to hold those lines and carry you back to safety.
As is the case with their discs, it’s got a great hand-feel and the ecotron plastic is smooth and durable.
The Arctic is a deeper disc which a lot players will enjoy and flies nice and smooth out of the hand.
Again, it’s not recommended for headwinds, but downwind throws, hyzer-flip to straight, or flat release with a turn are absolutely in play!
All told this is a rock-solid, versatile midrange that will absolutely get bagged!

Rogue Iron’s Fairway Driver – The Taiga!
If you like easy, controlled distance, you’ll probably like The Taiga!
This disc is a smooth flyer that is a candidate to be a beginners farthest flying disc. As an 8-speed (8, 5, -1, 1.5) it doesn’t take much to get it up and going.
The Taiga comes in the same durable, translucent ecotron plastic (as well as metal flake, swirl and glow!), and once again, you can expect a nice straight flight with a subtle yet reliable fade at the end of its high-gliding flight.
In addition to it’s reliability, you can also transform The Taiga into a longer-range scramble disc. Bend it around corners and watch it straighten out to flat and continue down the fairway.
If you give it a lot of pop, it’ll keep turning over and can be super useful down tight, turning fairways.
Similar to the other discs, and given it’s flight characteristics, this is not the disc you break out for headwinds. But with so much that it offers The Taiga will definitely be a staple for loads of disc golfers for years to come!

Rogue Iron’s Distance Driver – The Marine!
Oh sweet, straight-flying distance! Where do even begin with this beautiful disc?
If you are throwing in the 270 – 350 foot range, you are going to be hard-pressed to find a longer, straighter distance driver right out of the box. If you have less distance than that, then this might be your longest flying disc.
This thing seriously soars! And the forward finish with such minimal fade is downright impressive.
Anyone who has ever been confronted with a tightly lined fairway and a basket farther away than you might hope would now definitely be reaching for The Marine!
It comes in a very smooth, great-feeling ecotron hyper plastic that has a nice tack to it. Its flight numbers are 11, 5, -2, 1.5.
One other aspect that we liked about The Marine was that it was equally effective for forehand and backhand drives.
As long as you hit your line, you’ll be doing just fine with the Marine!

Rogue Iron’s New Discs – In Summary!
Rogue Iron didn’t want to rush their discs into the ever-growing market.
Wisely, they knew that if you are to get some footing in the disc golf world of discs, you need to offer disc golfers high-quality discs that they’ll repeatedly reach for in their bags.
And that’s exactly what they’ve done.
With high-quality, professionally-presented discs in all 3 of their quality plastics they were already off to a better start than most first-time disc manufacturers.
Once you throw in the fact that all four of their discs present a lot of value to disc golfers of many levels, you’re now ahead of the game.
The Biome gives a gorgeous, lofty straight flight with some turn when you need it. The Arctic and Taiga are super beginner-friendly and add a lot of versatility to any disc golfer’s bag. The Marine, is a straight-as-you-like, distance gobbling, gem of a driver. You won’t go wrong with any of them.
And they all come at great price points. When you give disc golfers a great price point on top of everything else, that’s when discs start selling out. And that’s exactly what happened (but they are back up to speed now)!
As for newer discs to their line? The folks at Rogue Iron are in the lab cooking up more!
If you were on the fence about whether to get one, two, three, or all of these discs, jump off and land on the side of “yes”.
Once again, it’s time to go Rogue!
