Today, we’ll review Buttery Brook Disc Golf Course in Massachusetts. Let’s go!
Buttery Brook Course review Introduction

I’ve had the opportunity to visit Buttery Brook quite a bit in its relatively short existence. It’s a 9 hole course tucked neatly into a park with all sorts of other attractions as well. The park has soccer nets, pickleball courts, a new playground for the kids, a picnic area with an overhang, and more.
All told, they neatly crammed in a lot of functionality, in a relatively small amount of space.
And so it is with their nine hole disc golf course. Providing a nice mixture of wooded holes and open ones, it’s clear they put a lot of thought into their design to make it all fit.
They even managed to get a practice basket in at the start of hole 1.
The signage is good and so is the flow. All told, it’s a nice experience that I think you’ll enjoy. Let’s take a look at some more info and some of the featured holes and see if it’s a good match for you.

Signature Holes
These are just the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…
Here are some images from Buttery Brook Course!
Hole 6
A winding par 4 through the woods.
If you can execute your tee shot and get a little crafty with your approach, the hole opens up at the end for you to collect your birdie.

Hole 8
Find the basket protected by trees after a lengthy par 5 with tight lines!
Hole 9
Come out of the woods for a nice open shot to a basket nestled in the trees.
If you get left-to-right movement on your disc, you can give this basket an ace run!

Ideas to Borrow for Future Course
Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…
Over the years I’ve gathered plenty of ideas for future courses.

One that stands out to me from Buttery Brook, that I haven’t yet mentioned, are the quality benches!
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of other positive traits with regards to Buttery Brook. It’s well maintained, has quality equipment like baskets, and it has got a great mix of holes.
And it also happens to have some seriously quality benches at most of the holes. These things are made to last. Now perhaps that’s a biproduct of the holes being in a public park, but it definitely adds to the experience when you walk up to a hole. Not only are they nice and comfortable to take a break, but it also adds to the overall aesthetic.
A nice touch indeed!
any Concerns for Buttery brook?
Overall, I don’t have a ton of concerns. This course serves its purpose beautifully. It’s a fun diversion in a great location (without too many courses very nearby).
But, no course is perfect so I’ve got two things to note.
- Hole 2 is a nice, tight, straight shot up the middle. The only issue occurs if you shank it, and/or get a bad kick to the right. If this occurs, there is a pretty steep decline down to a small brook. I’ve been down there and it’s tough to access and easy to lose a disc.
- Moisture – This past year was a pretty dry year. Nevertheless, when I went, there were some signs of sogginess near holes 9 and 3. If the rainfall creeps up, I’d be curious to see how boggy that part of the course becomes. If it’s significant, that wouldn’t be pleasant and a decent amount of foot traffic could tear up the well manicured grass significantly.
19th Hole
After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…

After a few laps through Buttery Brook, how about a trip to The Whiskey Barrel? Pub fare. A good selection of beer and whiskey/bourbon. Laid back ambiance.
If you like your wings, The Hangar, is not far either.
