New England Disc Golf Center Course Review

Course review Introduction

This course had been on my radar for quite some time. It’s an hour from where I live, so it was just a smidge outside of my normal striking distance. But finally, after a text on my phone telling me they had one of my discs (even though I had never played there), I had my excuse to go. And go I did!

The reviews were so good that, I knew it was only a matter of time. After playing the course, I can see why people enjoy it so much.

The “Center” has different courses to choose from. It has a longer, technical course that is par 71. This, Spoonwood Ridge, is the one I played. It also has a par 3 course that could be used by players looking for a more beginner-friendly experience, a faster round, or practice with those middle distance shots.

I also had the privilege of meeting both of the business partners responsible for running New England Disc Golf Center. They are clearly fueled by their passion for disc golf. This shows in how they greet each golfer, how well they maintain the courses and the forward thinking they employ to keep growing their business.

Related to business, the final thing I’ll note is that they have some really great deals on yearly membership fees. It is clear that they are, first and foremost, building a strong community at their course. With that as the focal point, they probably figure the business side of things will sort itself out.

These are just the opinion of the writer. With each course I like to showcase a few holes and explain what stuck out to me on that particular day. Then, I let the photos do the talking…

Hole 9: This is a 673 yard par 5 that is shaped like a lightning bolt! It has two 90-degree bends before you get a look at the basket.

Hole 17: This is a fun island hole where you only have to worry about losing strokes if you miss (as opposed to losing discs in the water).

Ideas to Borrow for Future Course

Some day I would like to construct my own disc golf course. Come along for the ride and see if I do (Subscribe)! With each course, I play, I want to find some element that I appreciate and can use for a course I help create some day…

With high-quality maintenance, a nice gift shop, friendly staff, and multiple courses there is a lot to like. For my purposes however, I’d like to hone in on their community building and their option for a par 3 course.

Having spoken with the minds behind the business, they were able to explain to me that they have seen a steady increase in their yearly memberships. Part of that can be attributed to the spike in disc golf’s popularity during the pandemic. But, the affordable price and the fact that they run events that build community cannot be ignored either…

Another aspect that I like is having a par 3 course on the premises. This does 3 major things, the way I view it. First, it keeps their larger, par 71 Spoonwood Ridge course from getting overly busy. Second, it gives beginners a safe place to hone their skills without getting demoralized. Third, it allows more experienced golfers an opportunity to work on their midrange accuracy without getting seduced into trying to “smash” every tee shot.

As I said before, there is a lot to like about this place. For this post, however, I chose to focus on how well they are building community and how they have a par 3 course on the premises.

19th Hole

After a round there is nothing better than going to a local establishment, having a beer (or whatever you want), some food, and talking about your round (or just disc golf in general). This section is always open to suggestions on where the best place to go after your round is…

As I said in the introduction, Southwick is a good hour from where I live. I don’t know it well so if you have suggestions I’m open to them.

For now, however, how about trying out the Southwick Inn? Good atmosphere, prices, beer and food. This would probably be the place I would head to.

Another option I’d look into is State Line Station. From what I read, this place has a fair amount of regulars. They must keep going back for a reason. If you’ve been, let me know what you think…

There has clearly been a lot of thought, time and energy that has gone into the development and continued progression of New England Disc Golf Center. They have a long, technical par 71 course as well as a par 3 course that adds a lot of variety to your disc golf plate on any given day.

This place is very well-maintained and there is clearly a strong community that they are cultivating.

With very affordable membership fees, it’s an absolute no-brainer to sign up if you are within range. The people running it are clearly forward thinking as well. This means that you can rest assured that, by sticking with them, you will be getting a complete disc golf experience that’s likely unrivaled in the area.

So, whether it’s for a day trip, a season or a lifetime of disc golf, give New England Disc Golf Center a go! You will not regret that you did!
