Rogue Iron Disc Golf Rangefinder – Introduction

Have you ever, in life, gone completely rogue?

Me neither. Wait, you have? Well… me too.

Whether you have or you haven’t, the idea brings with it an element of risk.

Not so, however, with the Rogue Iron Disc Golf Rangefinder. This rangefinder brings you an accurate, user-friendly product with all the fixings, at a great price point. When you get it, you’ll know this is a rangefinder made for disc golfers by fellow disc golfers.

All told, it also finds a prestigious ranking in our Best Disc Golf Rangefinders post!

Let’s take a closer look at what makes The Rogue Iron Disc Golf Rangefinder so fantastic.

Plus Sides of the Rogue Iron Factor Disc Golf Rangefinder.

I mentioned before that the makers of Rogue Iron Disc Golf Rangefinder were clearly disc golfers. So, how is it so clear? Well, apart from my research on the company which told me as much, it’s their clear attention to detail in everything about the complete package you get when it comes in the mail.

Would you like a sturdy case zipper case with a carabiner that can attach to any disc golf bag? They have both of those.

Would you like ease of access so you don’t have to fiddle around with zippers and pouches just to get at it? The Rogue Iron Rangefinder has a rubber band to loop around a metal protrusion to keep the rangefinder secure and easy to access.

Do you dislike worrying about when to change the batteries? This has a rechargeable battery (with included USB-C cable) and a battery life indicator (battery lasts plenty long).

Oh, I almost forgot, do you want ease of use and accuracy? Once you read the very simple instructions (outlined below), it is very easy to use and easily matches accuracy with other reputable brands that I tested it against.

Want more? This rangefinder has a 5-year limited warranty (don’t forget to register it) and even a lens cloth to wipe any of the lenses clean should you need it. Oh, and don’t forget, all this comes at the best price on the market.

So, like I said. The Rogue Iron Disc Golf Rangefinder has it all. Now, let’s look quickly at how easy it is to use.

Rogue Iron Factor Disc Golf Rangefinder – Easy to Use!

The instructions that come with this unit are very user friendly. It all neatly fits into one section of the very short manual that also has easy-to-understand diagrams and labels.

For the most part, this thing is completely self-explanatory.

The knob around the eyepiece can easily be adjusted for clarity.

The Power Button turns it on and it’s also what you use to measure distances. The unit automatically turns off after a few minutes to preserve battery life (which is more than adequate).

If you hold down the power button it vibrates and goes into scanning mode where you can continue to point at various objects and get the varying unit distances. This is a nice feature for shots with lot of obstacles to it.

2 Potential Spots for User-Error

Before you take it out on the course, here are two potential ways, you might get confused and think the device is not working.

  1. Blocking the laser – There were a few times when I was trying to steady the rangefinder that I blocked the laser with my hand. I’m sure the look on my face was very intelligent when I couldn’t figure out what I was doing. But, if you don’t get a reading, try making sure you are not blocking any part of the front with your hand.
  2. Switching Between Units of Measurement – The Rogue Iron Factor measures in meters, feet and yards. You would think that you toggle between these 3 measurements by simply pressing the “M” button which is labeled “Distance Unit Button”. Not so! You do this by pressing and holding both “Power” and “M” for 3 seconds.

Switching between units was a lot less self-explanatory. In fairness, I can see why they did it. They don’t want you to accidentally just hit the “M” button and mess up your readings (a 100 meter shot is far different from a 100 foot shot). Also, let’s be honest with ourselves, we only think in one of those measurements. So, once you have it set to your preferred unit (I prefer feet), you won’t be changing it up much, if ever. With that in mind, the good news is that the device keeps it set to whichever unit you last used so you don’t have to continually change it.

Speaking of change. Is there anything I would change about The Rogue Iron Factor Disc Golf Rangefinder?

Rogue Iron Rangefinder

Improving the Factor Disc Golf Rangefinder -1 Minor Thing!

First off, if I were to ever meet the founders of Rogue Iron I would shake their hands and ask them if they wanted to play a round.

They are so clearly disc golfers that have put a lot of thought and testing into this rangefinder and the little touches, along with the fantastic, user-friendly product make it truly a great value.

But, after the hand shake and the round of disc golf, if they were to ask me what improvement I would make on V2 (Version 2), I would tell them to somehow include “relative distance” in their reading. For those steep uphill and down hill shots, having the relative distance already calculated for you can be hugely beneficial.

And maybe, it would only activate if the Vertical Distance (VD) were 10 feet or higher either way. But knowing that, given the slope, the shot needs X-units of power, could greatly benefit a lot of players, especially those newer to the game.

But, that’s only if they were to make a V2. Which, given the obvious strengths the rangefinder already has, I’m not sure they will….

Rogue Iron – A Nod to The Environment

There’s one more reason, apart from a truly great rangefinder at a fantastic price, to make your purchase with Rogue Iron. This company clearly makes steps and, in my estimation, actually truly cares about the environment.

They know that our great game is very dependent on nature and trees to make it what it is. People gravitate to disc golf partially because it’s an opportunity to be in nature.

And unlike other companies (mostly outside of disc golf) I believe that they aren’t putting on airs or just giving lip service.

This company plants a lot of trees for the myriad benefits trees offer that they outline here. For each purchase you make (that you also register) they plant a tree. In addition, by simply visiting their site, and peering around, you are helping to plant trees (they are a NetZero website and plant trees to offset emissions from visiting their site).

I find their site to be easily navigable and they have some pretty sweet products to check out. So if you are not in the mood for getting your hands dirty planting trees and want to do a little disc golf perusing instead, be sure to check out their website.

What’s New to Rogue Iron?

So we’ve already established that simply clicking on their site helps to plant trees. There’s another reason, however, that you might want to visit. They’ve got some tasty new products fresh for you to check out.

First off, they have a new and improved V2 (version 2.0) of their already tantalizing and very highly rated disc golf cart. That right there is enough to get me there and I’ll be curious to hear what upgrades they made.

But also, Rogue Iron has just created their own line of discs!

This, to me, is especially intriguing because they are so clearly and obviously fellow disc golfers AND they are so overtly attentive to details. Put that together and I’m guessing they are going to come out with some very impressive discs, that disc golfers will appreciate.

You can bet that I’ll be trying them!

There you have it, at least two more reasons to give them a look! Now, let’s put a bow on the Rogue Iron Factor Disc Golf Rangefinder review.

Rogue Iron Factor Disc Golf Rangefinder – In Summary

Truly and honestly, I think Rogue Iron absolutely nails it with this Factor Disc Golf Rangefinder.

I would 100% recommend it to any disc golfer without hesitation.

It’s accurate and stands up to all the big brand names on the market in performance. In addition, it is very user-friendly and intuitive. Just point and shoot.

It is also handsomely packaged with a sturdy case that easily attaches to bags and was clearly designed with a lot of thought behind it. Add in the powerful magnet for attaching it to a cart, the lens cloth for easy cleaning, and the neat, compact design, and you’ve got yourself a first-rate rangefinder.

All this adds up to it easily making our 5 Best Disc Golf Rangefinders list!

In the end, when you peruse their site and try their products (both of which plant trees), it becomes clear that this is a rangefinder that was designed by disc golfers for disc golfers.

Add in the fact that it comes at the best price on the market and there’s very little deliberation needed.
